| Cullen Diane Madeline Cab/merlot |
A very good example of some of the finer wines coming out of Australia which try to echo their place of birth rather than climate. Has a real sense of place and definition - as Darth would say, impressive. |
| Ayler Kupp Riesling Kabinett |
What a bargain. This is a light but very long, complex and ageworthy wine which fortunately for the consumer is still unfashionable and so cheap. |
| Phillipe Faury Condrieu |
Real harmony and depth from this classic Northern Rhone vintage. With an intense seville orange and blossom character this is the finest viognier I have ever tatsed! |
| Berry Bros Good Ordinary Claret |
Well made if a little expensive wine. Good savoury, traditional Bordeaux as the name suggests. |
| Ken Forrester Petit Pinotage |
Excellent value wine form this qualitatively driven South African producer. Pinotage has a questinable reputation in the U.K. but this fresh and bouncy example is all damson and raspberry with a hint of mint and a brush of spice. |
| Leaping Lizard Shiraz Cabernet |
Not sure who would ever pay 7.88 for this artificial and off dry effort. Represnts everything which is bad about Australian wine and 'half price' promotions in U.K. supermatkets. |
| Cuvee Des Amandiers Blanc |
Great value and one of the first French 2005's I've had the opportunity to taste. Being touted as a great vintage if this is anything to go by that could be true. |
| Marques De Grignon Rioja |
A soft and round commercial style of rioja which is easy to understand and enjoy. Buy it when it is on promotion i.e. less then a fiver. |
| Jekel Chardonnay |
Buy it quick while it's 'half price' a real mouthful for £4.99, |
| Joseph Phelps Chardonnay |
Fully mature and classy top notch Californian Chardonnay from this famous winery. Now with some developement and so complexity not dissimilar to good 1er cru Meursault. |
| Oxford Landing Cab/shiraz |
Mass produced Ozzy brand which tastes as one would expect -bland. Ideal for those who don't want to overthink their wine. |
| Dom Perignon Oenoteque |
An incredible timeless classic which shows the benifit of late discorgement. The fact that the wine is from my birth year is an added bonus. |
| Blush De L'ardeche |
Disappointing and feels like an over worked and artificial rose. Versatile and easy to drink but leaves you feeling hollow. |
| Louis Latour Bourgogne Pinot Noir |
Frankly disappointing and shows how difficult pinot noir can be to get ripe! £6.99 feels like a lot and I suspect you pay most of that for the packaging. |
| Otra Vida Viognier |
A correct and well made wine from this Concha y Toro owned operation. Argentinian Viognier is getting better with every vintage and this is a good and cheap example. |
