Ch De Beaucastel Cndp  Very serious and fully mayure CNDP from this famous estate. Buying this when young (see the 2005) will bring a fantastic reward to those with patience.

Torbreck Woodcutters Shiraz  Almost Rhoney and interesting example of what is normally a one size fits all wine (Barossa valley Shiraz). Has real definition and class, stands out from the crowd and lights the correct path for Australian winemakers to follow.

Beringer Zinfandel Blush  Very commercial, artificial and confected style which sells in huge volumes. Medium in sweetness and more like fruit juice than wine - good for 18th birthday parties.

 Geoff at 28th Apr 2006, 09:19AM
Moa Ridge  A lovely balance between ripe and crispness. Long and elegant this is what good NZ sauvignon is all about.

 Geoff at 19th Apr 2006, 11:25PM
Jekel Cabernet Sauvignon  Half price in Sainsburys at the moment, not worth £10 but interesting, in a showy sort of way, at £5. Very ripe and obvious but nice concentration and a degree of finesse.

La Serrana Tempranillo  A well put together and juicy wine which offers real value for money. To buy a varietally labelled wine which tastes loke what it says on the btl is a bargain.

Sincerite Sauvignon Blanc  This is a relatively simple but well made wine. For those bored of Kiwi Sauvignon this is a restrained but ripe French alternative.

 Geoff at 11th Mar 2006, 05:01PM
Julia Roch  A warm climate but seamless wine from this up and coming region. Both Spain and Monastrell are becoming increasingly fashionable and this wine shows why.

 Geoff at 10th Mar 2006, 03:56PM
Billecart Salmon Rose  A very good n.v. rose in the elagant and focussed style. Has real finesse, class and great length.

 Geoff at 10th Mar 2006, 01:13PM
E.guigal Cote Rotie La Turque  This is an incredible wine with layer upon layer of texture, flavour and aroma. Now beginning to reveal it's full potential. Guigal has re-invented Cote rotie as an appellation and despite the many pretenders to the throne still wears the crown.

 Geoff at 28th Feb 2006, 08:53PM
Michele Chiarlo Cerequio Barolo  Barolo produces such an interesting and unique array of aromatics and flavours that when it is good it\'s worth the price tag, Chiarlo has fashioned a classic example from what was a very good vintage.

 Geoff at 27th Feb 2006, 09:57PM
Palliser Sauvignon Blanc  A real powerhouse of a wine which has great structure married to an underlying richness. On the tropical side of Marlborough Sauvignon and makes a refreshing change from the sweaty style which is becoming all too common and frankly dull.

 Geoff at 27th Feb 2006, 08:31PM
Trimbach Clos Ste. Hune Riesling  This is a breathtaking wine from this famous monopole. It will be extremely long lived and is an incredibly versatile food wine. When compared to the best Burgundy has to offer it would appear cheap.

 Geoff at 26th Feb 2006, 10:44PM
Glen Carlou  A good everyday 'TV wine' which will suit all manner of foods. New world in style but genuinely winey raher than fruit juice, this is a savoury drink which shows brand does not always mean bland.

 Geoff at 26th Feb 2006, 10:17PM
Tim Knappstein Riesling  Clare valley makes some of the best Rieslings in the world and Knappstein some of the best in the Clare valley. This is a rarity - a sub £10 white which one could cellar. Riesling is supposed to be the next Chardonnay but remains unfashionable making this a bargain.

 Geoff at 26th Feb 2006, 09:59PM
Taittinger Brut Nv  This release of the nv seems would appear to be better than ever. It is the most important wine in the range and the one most thought goes into. A well crafted and complex wine which demonstrates why Champagne is worth the money.

 Geoff at 26th Feb 2006, 08:27PM
St Paul De Dominique  A wine eminating from Bordeaux which actually offers value for money. This vintage will always live in the shadow of 2000 but is producing some classic iwnes which are comparitively cheap!

 Geoff at 26th Feb 2006, 07:36PM
Quinta Do Castro  Wines like this will mean that the Duoro valley is seen as more than a source of fortified wine. It is real value for money and provides a combination of grape variety, climate and terroir which produces distinct and characterful examples.

 Geoff at 25th Feb 2006, 04:11PM
Flagstone  A well made and modern style from a country whose reds come in for a fair amount of criticism. Ideal for those looking for new world ripeness and old world elegance.

 Geoff at 25th Feb 2006, 03:09PM
Domaine Des 2 Anes Fontanilles  A cracking example of what quality concious producers are doing in this beautiful part of the world. Combining tradition and modern practice this is a bargain.

 Geoff at 25th Feb 2006, 01:38PM
Tio Pepe Fino  Cheap because despite heay advertising is still unfashionable. You get a very complex and interesting food wine for £7.99 ish.

 Geoff at 22nd Feb 2006, 10:24PM
Sancerre Chavignol Paul Thomas  A good example of this classic appellation. A complete wine which helps to justify the reputation and often price tag of Sancerre.

 Geoff at 22nd Feb 2006, 10:00PM
Ginestet Rouge  Will never compete with South America or of France at this price due to simple economics of producing wine in this part of the world. However as an example is not bad.

 Geoff at 22nd Feb 2006, 09:25PM
Ch Chauvin  An expensive but mature wine from what was a great merlot vintage in Bordeaux. It is classy stuff with nice texture and in St Emilion terms a bargain.
