Falesco S.r.l., Azienda Vinicola (umbrian Appell.), Montiano  Fantastic nose of ripe red and black fruits, saddle leather, chocolate. The palate echoes the nose yet remains austere and tough and not entirely together for a couple of hours. A mix of old and new that lack some complexity right now but I suspect that will come in time. I like this wine without quite being able to explain why.

Artazuri, Santa Cruz De Artazuri  A vibrant dark ruby color with no sign of browning. Shows aromas of red and black fruits, camp fire, leather, spices. The palate is disjointed and austere at first and needs 2 hours to open but then is long, rich, minerally and savoury. Still on the young side for my taste and should keep well for 4-5 years.

Jadot, Louis, Château De Poncie  Better than last time. Was 2003 as hot in Beaujolais as in the rest of France? Because this is a very ripe wine, riper and fatter than it was 6 months ago. But Jadot really know their stuff because the fruit’s ripeness is so nicely supported by the tannic backbone. More black fruits and herbs complementing the red fruits, spices and flowers that were more prominent 6 months ago.

Graillot, St. Joseph  The nose is fairly deep and complex: ripe wild berries, pepper, smoke and herbs. At first it was all very ripe fruit punch aromas and needed an hour to blow that off. The palate shows a lot of acidity almost jammy fruitiness with more than a hint of lemon on the finish and ruins the good impression made by the nose. This might be too much for some but I like it.

Lustau, Vides, Jerez De La Frontera, 1/50  Delicate on the nose, pungent on the palate, and bone-dry. Aromas and flavors of nuts, sea air, dried fruits, chocolate. Quite amazing how a wine this dry manages to pack so many flavors. Vibrant and mouthfilling. A very long and mineraly/spicy finish.
